Briar Hill is more than just an outstanding leisure lifestyle
community that offers an incredible array of amenities. It is
the culmination of a dream began by one man nearly 30
years ago. Lou Biffis, founder and developer of Briar Hill, has
had a lifelong dream of creating an adult leisure community
offering a true resort lifestyle with recreational opportunities
that would surpass many world class resorts.

He built the Nottawasaga Inn in 1968, with the idea that
if you give people a place to relax, great service, quality and
a fair price, you’ll be successful and they would return
and tell others.

The Inn grew over time as more and more people
discovered the beautiful surroundings and first class
accommodations of the Nottawasaga Inn
just 45 minutes north of Toronto.

In 1972 Lou began thinking about making it possible for his guests to become year round residents. The
approval and design process took an enormous amount of time and energy, but in 1985, the community of
Green Briar was founded at the eastern end of the property along with an 18 hole golf course.

Green Briar was an instant success and recognized as Canada’s first adult lifestyle community in a genuine
resort setting. Over an 11 year period, 497 homes were meticulously constructed at Green Briar, as people
recognized the uncompromising quality and outstanding value.

During this time, Lou’s sons and nephew also joined the family business, bringing with them the same
amount of energy and thoughtfulness that made the business so successful. The result is a truly remarkable
team that has created an elegant community that embodies sound management principles, astute planning
and a commitment to uncompromising quality.
